Boaties and visitors to the Bay of Islands are helping divert tonnes of waste from landfill this summer through a pop-up rubbish and recycling centre at Russell Kororāreka Wharf.
This initiative has been led by key organisers, including Resilient Russell Charitable Trust, Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board, Northland Waste, Citycare and Hone’s Pizza Garden and is proudly sponsored by Kororāreka Russell Wharf Community Kaitiaki Trust and Far North Holdings.
As the commercial arm of the Far North District Council, we are committed to supporting sustainable, community-led projects that protect our region’s natural beauty.
This temporary facility has provided an essential service during the busy summer season, helping reduce environmental impacts and promoting responsible waste disposal. We thank everyone involved for their contributions to this successful initiative.
